Janet Street, creator of Easy Keepers, a new eco-friendly designer toy made in the USA

Janet grew up in Nashville surrounded by an extended family of artists and architects. It was in her mother’s studio where she first learned to draw, paint and sculpt. As she grew older, she would share her father’s love of architecture and furniture design. One of Janet’s enduring influences was her maternal grandmother, Janet Travell, the personal physician to Presidents John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. Dr. Travell (known as “Bobby” to family and friends) was the first woman to serve in this capacity. Janet was fortunate to have many positive role models, both human and equine. Janet’s deepest childhood passions, art and horses, continue to be major life themes. Easy Keepers are the culmination of these life-long experiences.

Janet graduated with a BFA in graphic design from the University of Georgia.  For the last twenty-five years, Janet has owned and operated Janet Street Studio, creating illustrations for picture books, editorial and advertising clients. In addition to illustration and design, Janet taught art classes in an independent school, and became a regular contributor to Family Fun Magazine, developing crafts, costumes and other projects for children.

Janet is the illustrator of many children’s books including One Day, Two Dragons by Lynne Bertrand, The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat by Eugene Field and Animal Fare by Jane Yolen).  One Day, Two Dragons was a winner of the New York Times “Best Children’s Books of the Year” Award.

Janet lives in Northampton, Massachusetts with her husband, Dennis Caraher, and her son, Duncan.
